Music

I have been a piano teacher for over 50 years of my life, starting in the 1960’s shortly after moving to Georgia. Since then, I have instructed students of many ages either in my home, at a church, or at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA where I taught for 14 years. Presently, I am going to my students’ homes.

Taking piano lessons helps the students in so many different ways; enjoyment, self-esteem and self-discipline, math, using both sides of the brain, and preparing to play other instruments, just to name a few. I have instructed students who have gone on to major in music in college and grad school, as well as students with a variety of disabilities. At this time, I am working with several autistic children, in addition to my other students.

I started playing for church right after I graduated from Agnes Scott College and have been playing in a church ever since then – mostly Episcopal Churches in the Atlanta area. I have played everything from Praise Music to J.S. Bach on a wide variety of instruments and loved every minute of it!

I start where students are, and help facilitate their development toward being the types of musicians they want to be. Note reading, chord charts, and improvisation are all within the realm of possibility, as are a variety of styles.
